KIREKA OPEN 2025 (9TH EDITION) : CELEBRATING SPONSORS MTN UGANDA AND MANDA MOBILE, LEADERSHIP AND EXCELLENCE IN CHESS.

The success of the Kireka Open Chess Championship 2025 (9th Edition) was made possible through strong partnerships, visionary leadership, and dedicated organization, all of which came together to deliver one of the most memorable chess events in Uganda’s history.

The championship was proudly sponsored by MTN Uganda and Manda Mobile, whose support elevated the tournament to international standards. MTN Uganda’s involvement brought visibility and a vibrant identity to the event. Manda Mobile played a key role in enhancing player welfare and overall event presentation, ensuring a rewarding experience for participants across all categories. Through their sponsorship, players competed for meaningful cash prizes, trophies, medals, and special awards, reinforcing the value of competitive chess in Uganda.

At the heart of the tournament’s success was the leadership of Kireka Chess Club, whose management demonstrated exceptional commitment and organizational excellence. Special appreciation goes to Mr. Bob Were, the patron of Kireka Chess Club, for his unwavering support and vision in growing chess at both grassroots and elite levels. His continued investment in chess development has positioned Kireka as a powerhouse club and a trusted host of major national and international events.

The organizing committee, led by Sanya Derrick and Kafuko John, worked tirelessly to ensure seamless coordination, fair competition, and a welcoming environment for all players. Their professionalism was reflected in the smooth running of the tournament, from logistics and scheduling to player support and media engagement.

The championship also benefited from high-level technical oversight, with International Arbiter Kimera, assisted by Cynthia from Kenya, ensuring that the event was conducted according to international standards. Their presence reinforced the credibility and integrity of the competition.

The Uganda Chess Federation, led by its President Andrew Bakiiza, commended Kireka Chess Club and the sponsors for setting a high benchmark in tournament organization. The federation reaffirmed its commitment to supporting partnerships that promote chess as a sport, a profession, and a unifying force in Uganda.
