IM SSEGWANYI ARTHUR DEFENDS KIREKA OPEN CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE

The 6th edition of Kireka Open Chess Championship concluded with IM Ssegwanyi Arthur defending his title in the open category with the same score of 7.5 points as in the 5th edition.

The 6th Edition of the Kireka Open Chess Championship attracted over 200 participants from Afghanistan, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, South Sudan and Uganda. It took place at Gloria Gardens located in Namugongo, Wakiso District, Uganda from the 28th to 31st December 2022. It featured the Open Category, Ladies Category and Junior Category. IM SSEGWANYI TAKES ON FM HARUNA NSUBUGA IN THE LAST ROUND

After suffering a disaster of a tournament in the 2022 Rwabushenyi Memorial Open Championship, where he scored a paltry 3 points, IM Ssegwanyi outwitted Muweesi Ismail, Obita Francis, Mayom Ajak, Mugisha David, Peter Majur, CM Egesa Emmanuel, FM Haruna Nsubuga and only drew with Deng Ateny to defend his title for the third time in a row. IM Ssegwanyi has now won the Kireka Open Chess Championship for a record four times. He has emerged victorious in the 2016, 2019, 2021 and 2022 editions.

FINAL RANKINGS AFTER ROUND 8

Nakabo Peninah emerged victorious in the Ladies category. She outsmarted Munanukye Manzi, Ntume Ivan, Nyeko Brian, Eculo Isaac, Daahir Bashir Yusuf, Daniel Deng Panchol and only lost to IM Emojong Elijah and Emmanuel Egesa to score 6 points out of 8 games.

WFM NAKABO PENINAH

Nambohe Arnold emerged the Undisputed Champion in the Juniors Category with a perfect score of 7 points out of 7 games. He defeated Rwabose Asiphiwe, Devansh Sachin, Barrole Agustus, Angel Luggya, Mwanje Kathan, Muhumuza Elijah and Kigozi Calvin to wear the crown.
